ABOUT:
Satya came to cranial work from a back ground in Midwifery and health care work. She has been passionate and deeply immersed in clinical Craniosacral Therapy (CST) practice since 1999. Through her love and exploration of the work, she was asked to teach on CST Family postgraduate courses in 2000, and invited onto the Karuna Institute Foundation Teaching Team in 2002.

As Satya’s teaching role expanded, established as a senior tutor at Karuna Institute, she also became co-coordinator with the Craniosacral Therapy Educational Trust. Developing further, into her co-leading training programmes in Europe and the USA.

After 14 years of teaching Post Grad Family courses with colleague Claire Dolby, Satya took a break to complete her master’s degree and gain accreditation as a psychotherapist.

Now, in response to requested interest, Satya is offering a series of workshops to apprentice both new and experienced CST practitioners in this profound work with babies and families.

Satya's work with babies and families has been deeply informed by the teachings of William Emerson, Ray Castellino, and Matthew Appleton. And, most profoundly, by the families themselves, whose experiences have continuously enriched and guided her practice and ever grateful to.

Alongside her CST clinical and educational roles, Satya works as a psychotherapist, Integrative Baby Therapist, supervisor, and mentor.
She also engages deeply with the natural world through forest therapy, movement, rewilding, and wild food foraging.

HISTORY:
Insight into Satya’s Journey with Families and Birth Work...
My passion for birth, babies, and families was ignited as a student nurse during a three-month obstetric placement, when I witnessed my first beautiful natural birth in a hospital setting. That profound experience changed my life and set me on the path to qualifying as a midwife in 1982.

I studied midwifery in Canterbury, where I was mentored by the remarkable Miss Thomas, a nun who had spent ten years practicing in Cameroon with minimal equipment and in close collaboration with traditional midwives. Miss Thomas later went on to lead the World Health Organization’s Midwifery and Childbirth Programme. Her example and mentorship had a deep and lasting influence on my career.

Inspired by her dedication, I joined Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) at the age of 25 and, in 1984, co-managed a rural hospital in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. There, I worked in partnership with local health workers to develop and deliver training and support programmes for village midwives. I dedicated three years to this vital work.

Over the next 20 years, my midwifery practice was rich and varied. Practicing as acting Matron of a midwifery unit in New Zealand, where I worked closely with Māori midwives and communities to develop culturally grounded birth education and practices.
In 1996, I moved to Devon to become a community midwife in an area known for having one of the highest homebirth rates in the UK.

With Gratitude Satya.
