Chasing Waterfalls - Lower Level Mourne Mountains

Join us for this Low Level Mourne Mountain Adventure !

Get ready for a day of exploration!! This in-person event is perfect for nature enthusiasts and hiking lovers alike. A mountain adventure not to be missed.

On Sat 25 Oct 2025, we will gather at Ott car park, the starting point of our Chasing Waterfalls guided hike.

This low level loop hike will not take in any big peaks, instead our focus will be on exploring the some of the many waterfalls that lie within the range.You will get the opportunity to see 3 waterfalls on this hike, including 'The Secret Waterfall' on Bearnagh. We will take you to places I'm sure you have never been, to experience views I'm sure you have never seen.

One of our waterfalls beside Ben Crom Reservoir will involve walking up a gorge along the rocky river bed.
This part of the hike is absolutely magical!! Like stepping into another world.

The hike will also take us from Ott Carpark to Ben Crom reservoir. We will walk up along the reservoir which is one our favourite walks in the Mournes. We will then return via the Secret Waterfall on Bearnagh, contouring around Slieve Bearnagh, Meelmore and Meelbeg. There is a section from the Secret Waterfall to the path that is steep and rocky, but not exposed.

To get to one of the waterfalls we will walk up a gorge along a section of the river. This part will absolutely blow you away. It is quite rocky but It's manageable if you are up for an adventure and a 'can do' attitude ...but if you are not comfortable there is the option to opt out of this bit.

During this event, you will have the opportunity to explore the picturesque trails, immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, and connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.

Terrain: rocky track, open mountain, single track, uneven pathless terrain, bog, steep rocky ground, river crossing, rocky river walk

Can I go on my own?

Of course, there are lots of people that join our events on their own, it won’t be long until you are making new mountain mates!

What you will need to wear:

Suitable footwear- this includes walking boots or waterproof hiking/mountain running trail shoes

Walking trousers or leggings (no jeans/cotton)

Insulating layers such as fleece or wool and a jacket

What you will need to bring with you:

Small backpack

Waterproof jacket and trousers

Hat and gloves

Spare insulating layers

Water and snacks

Head torch and spare batteries

Are you ready for an adventure? You will get a guided hike with qualified and experienced mountain leaders who are outdoor first aid trained and will be carrying first aid and emergency equipment for your safety.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

IF WE CANCEL OR POSTPONE an event for any reason, you will have the option of:

1. Completing your activity on a rescheduled date

2. Receive a full refund.

IF YOU CANCEL:

If you notify us with over 14 days notice of the event start date credit will be given that you can use against other events. Within 14 days notice of an event there is no credit given and we do not offer exchanges/transfer of your ticket onto another event.

RESCHEDULED EVENT

If I event is rescheduled and you agree to the new date, this cancellation policy will apply.

Please note: Due to the nature of the events we provide and the environments these take place in, hikes will not be cancelled simply because of bad weather. However they will be cancelled by us if bad weather deems the event dangerous. In this instance we will get in touch to notify you. Hikes are subject to minimum group numbers being reached. In the event that this does not happen, you will be notified and offered a full refund, or the opportunity to be transferred onto a different event.
