Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo
The photo of the Peace Lantern Ceremony on the Tennessee River on August 9 (Nagasaki Day) marked the end of a powerful commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bombs. Traditionally, the lanterns were used in Japan to send ancestors back to where they dwell after the Obon ceremony, which we call, appropriately, the Ancestors Ceremony.
On Saturday we will conduct an Ancestors Ceremony for the loved ones of our community, including JoAnne Lingle, who passed away in May and whose ash will be interred at the Spirit Garden at the Peace Pagoda. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m., but the shuttle up the hill will start at 10:15 a.m., for those who do not have 4WD or AWD, and ends at 11 a.m. You can also walk up the hill, if you choose.
Please bring a photo of the people you would like to remember. These will be placed on the altar at we remember them and bring them into the ceremony. Also, please bring something for the potluck immediately following the ceremony.
And finally, please contact us with any questions. We look forward to seeing you.
