Hugh Doyle & Keegan Evans got to talking over a few schooners of an obscure triple IPA, while both working at Newcastle’s The Grain Store.
A shared passion for abstract and expressionist art led to the easy decision of sharing an exhibition.
Through the show, you'll see influences from Warhol, Lichtenstein, Dali, De Kooning, Olsen, Whiteley.
However, the works are unmistakably original.
This exhibition is bold, charismatic & alive.
A collection of great maturity and promise.
Hugh Doyle has an abstract way of seeing. Observing his surroundings and bringing it back to the studio and on to the canvas.
Largely inspired by Newcastle’s coastline and his wanderings through the majestic Blue Mountains, NSW.
Like the trees & tides that inspire them, Doyle’s works gather & grow to flourish on the canvas.
Rich, earthy and layered with texture, the works seem to move and grow beyond the canvas.
Coupled with loose gestural brushstrokes, the works present a lyrical, sensory & romantic vision.
Keegan evans is a figurative artist whose work blends surrealism with vibrant, imaginative visuals. Through his use of oil pastels, oil paint and acrylic on canvas or wooden board his pieces often create dreamlike atmospheres, where reality and fantasy merge. Working with ideas spawned from the subconsciousness and often his own dream figures he creates a wholly unique style which is rich in detail, with a focus on colour and strange forms that draws viewers into an alternate world. Through his artwork, he explores themes of exploration and transformation within the conscious and unconscious mind, offering a unique perspective that invites the viewer to look beyond the ordinary and into the extraordinary. His art feels both whimsical and thought-provoking, providing an engaging escape into a reimagined reality.
