Navigating AI in HR

Join us as we come together to discuss the implications of AI for the HR profession. We’ll talk about the real opportunities, risks and considerations for HR people in incorporating AI into the workplace.

Section One: Can we trust AI and algorithms to hire people fairly and inclusively?

Dr Emily Yarrow – Newcastle University

Dr Emily Yarrow is a Senior Lecturer in Management and Organisations at Newcastle University Business School, and is Deputy Head of the Leadership, Work and Organisation Subject Group.

Her research contributes to understandings of gendered organisational dynamics, women's experiences at work, inequality regimes, AI and bias run a range of settings. She is an academic member of the CIPD (MCIPD) and currently serves as the Vice Chair for EDIR at the British Academy of Management.

Emily’s session will explore some of her recent research with AI powered platform developers and vendors, highlighting some of the key market trends and EDI issues for HR practitioners mobilising AI tools.

Section Two: Legal implications of AI in the workplace

Emily Warman - Square One Law

Emily is an Associate Solicitor at Square One Law. She works across all areas of employment law, supporting employers with day-to-day employment queries, complex investigations, redundancy and TUPE matters and Employment Tribunal claims. Emily also specialises in business immigration, helping employers with sponsorship applications, ongoing sponsorship obligations, visa applications and right to work queries.

Emily will look at the legal implications for HR of AI being used in the workplace, from the policies and procedures employers should put in place regarding AI, how to deal with unauthorised use of AI by employees or where issues arise from employees using AI in the workplace, to the impact of employees using AI to raise grievances, data subject access requests and even Employment Tribunal claims.

Section Three: How are HR people currently using AI?

We’ll hear from members of our HR community already using AI programs and see demonstrations of these tools in use.
