Shiatsu ('finger-pressure') is a form of bodywork that originated in Japan and was introduced to the West around the 1950s. Traditionally hands-on, using techniques such as kneading, pressing, soothing, and stretching to alleviate tension from the body, shiatsu is much more than a simple massage. It is gentle yet highly effective, helping to relax the mind and foster a stronger connection with one's body. Each session is tailored to meet the specific needs and capabilities of the recipient. Shiatsu can aid in restoring the balance of vital energy and promoting holistic well-being.
Shiatsu is based on principles from Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine. A key concept in this practice is the idea of Ki, which is considered vital energy, present throughout the universe. According to Eastern philosophy, balanced Ki is believed to result in harmony at all levels of being.
Lightbody Shiatsu
Lightbody Shiatsu (sometimes called ‘Quantum Shiatsu’) originates from a development of the shiatsu technique pioneered by a teacher called Pauline Sasaki. Of Japanese origin, Pauline lived & worked in the USA but frequently travelled to give very popular and highly influential workshops throughout Europe until her death in 2010. Pauline’s description of Quantum Shiatsu went on to say:
"Quantum Shiatsu is an evolution of traditional shiatsu that incorporates the understanding of quantum physics and the multidimensional nature of human beings, by showing how the physical body can work as an expanding and contracting field of energy vibrations. When we access this part of our physical make up, we open ourselves to the full spectrum of energy that is available for human use" she explained. "By engaging with the subtle layers of energy fields, this approach allows practitioners to work not just on the physical body, but also on the energetic and spiritual dimensions of the client."
Pauline's innovative approach emphasized the importance of intention, awareness, and the practitioner's own energetic state. Her teachings encouraged practitioners to develop a deep sensitivity to the flow of Ki and to use this awareness to facilitate profound healing processes. Lightbody Shiatsu, thus, is seen as an advanced and dynamic form of bodywork that aligns with contemporary understandings of energy and consciousness.
The Workshop
The main intention of the day is to have a fun, practical day to share some of the introductory principles of Lightbody Shiatsu, and to bring about some balance, alignment and relaxation. Also, to find out if there is a desire to continue in the future with regular classes.
In these classes, we will:
• Learn to apply principles for effective shiatsu technique
• Identify the locations of the main meridians commonly used in a shiatsu session
• Familiarise ourselves with Qigong exercises useful for lightbody work
• Understand some the important acupressure points on the body and their uses
• Discuss the significance of the central channels of energy and how they connect body work with light work
• Explore the subtle bodies, chakras, and other relevant developments such as sacred geometry, the 9 dimensions and virtual strands of DNA.
This workshop is perfect for:
• Beginners and those new to bodywork
• Those with some previous experience in shiatsu/other related energy work who would like to develop their practice with Lightbody techniques.
You will need to bring:
• A light lunch.
• A futon/mat for working on, or a table – whichever you prefer.
• Drawing materials – coloured pens and paper/notebook.
• Wear loose comfortable clothing, suitable for doing exercises in.
• Ideally a lightweight, but warm single blanket.
Conclusion
‘The ultimate aim of this work is in to imprint, through our touch, the expansive vibrations that define our spiritual reality into our physical body so that our receivers may regain their oneness and become a “body of light”; they will be fully present at the physical level and, at the same time, totally connected with their spiritual level, with their Higher Self. In this way the qualities that define their spiritual reality: love, compassion, harmony, etc. may manifest in their physical reality, enhancing a process of spiritual healing and growth.’

Leaving the last words to Pauline:
“Our spiritual reality has no meaning until it manifests in our physical reality. And our physical reality cannot change or develop until it organises itself in the context of our spiritual reality “ Pauline Sasaki.
