Classics with Carmen has moved house!
With the closure of the wonderful Prohibition Cabaret Bar Classics with Carmen has moved around the corner to The Black Swan Bar @ Newcastle Arts Centre, Black Swan Court, 69 Westgate Road, NE1 1SG
I will be bringing you even more classic showtunes, swing, jazz, blues and more from the beautiful central venue in the heart of the city.
An evening of all of your favourites from across the decade, Liza Minelli, The Ratpack, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and so many more. Carmen brings power house vocals and music hall banter to her shows. So enjoy this cozy environment with some classic tunes and a lovely drink. Thursday is the new Friday!
While the show is much the same, banter and belting- galore a few things have had to change with the move.
This is now a ticketed event instead of a jar on the bar- Tickets are £5 and can be purchased from
https://newcastle-arts-centre.co.uk/product/live-thursdays-classics-with-carmen/ or on the door on the day.
The doors to the venue will open at 7pm and music will begin at 7.30pm
The vibe will still be the same, easy going, a bit of banter, freedom to move around the space to get more drinks and hopefully together we can build a new space to enjoy live music. I am not the only one heading over from Prohibition so keep an eye on The Black Swans social media!
Unfortunately this venue is currently not accessible- I am very aware that this is far from ideal and I apologise for this. The venue is currently fund raising to amend this and I have
pasted their statement regarding this below.
Copied from the Black Swans website regarding accessibility-
Newcastle Art Centre’s Black Swan Bar & Venue is a popular location in the city centre for performances, live music, conferences, events, and functions.
However, its Bar currently has no disabled access.
The Black Swan’s Bar is more than just a service area for drinks; it hosts a lot of the Art Centre’s music programme, provides the Venue with a social space, and is used as the Black Swan’s main hosting entrance.
We want this new lift to offer a fully integrated and inclusive welcome to all who visit the Black Swan.
The Trustees regard this upgrade to our space as vital work to retain and improve the viability of our venue. To enable the Arts Centre and its venue to engage new audiences, develop its reach, and grow as a cultural hub in the city-centre, we need to improve this aspect of our accessibility.
