The Arms is a functioning pub with strange happenings reported daily by staff and the owner of the pub. The Afterlife team investigated the Arms and the phenomena which occurred frightened us all. We had intelligent communication via rem-pods and other motion censored equipment. Music boxes being triggered on their own, loud footsteps / running towards us in the attic above the old stables. Video evidence has also been captured of glasses being smashed, full body apparitions, EVP’S and much more!
History
The Sneyd Arms was built in 1846 as part of a larger rebuilding effort by Ralph Snyed who had purchased all the land in the village. It was built to accommodate the village’s population and became a central part of Keele’s social life, as the Sneyd family controlled both the inn and the village’s other institutions.
The Keele Estate was purchased by Willian Sneyd and the family moved to the estate in 1544. The estate was owned by the Snyed family for over 400 years and the family dates to the 13th century as a minor branch of the powerful Audley family in Cheshire. The Sneyd coat of arms featured a device of scythe to identify them in battle, offering the opportunity for a pun on the family name.
In 1939 the deteriorating house and estate were requisitioned by the military for the Second World War. The hall was occupied and dozens of temporary buildings were built to house troops that had been evacuated from Dunkirk in 1940.
