In this course, students will learn the basics about stars, planets, galaxies, black holes, and what causes astronomical events such as lunar and solar eclipses, northern lights, ocean tides, and meteor showers. Past and present astronomical discoveries will be discussed. If you’re curious about what you see and why when you look up at the night sky, this class is for you. The first week will be indoors. The second week will be a local hands-on observation of the night sky, either at Maudslay or Plum Island. Partlan has been an amateur astronomer his whole life.
