Our friends at Swing Dance Newbury have been in touch. Lucie Robinson is very excited to be teaming up with Jack Colbran for a relaxed afternoon dance workshop aimed at Beginner's for Collegiate Shag.

Address : Beedon Village Hall. Near to Newbury and just off the M4 / A34 Interchange. Old Oxford Road, Newbury, Berkshire, RG20 8SX.

Doors open : 1:45pm
Workshop : 2.00pm - 3.30pm
Practice Time : 3.30pm - 4pm
Cost : £14 payable in advance.

Collegiate Shag originated in the American South, specifically the Carolinas, and was first seen in the African American communities during the late 1920s. It followed the Charleston dance craze that was sweeping America.

It gained popularity in the 1930s and spread across the US, becoming a favourite among college students, which is how it got its name.

The dance is known for its energetic footwork and hopping steps, often danced to fast-paced swing and pre-swing jazz music.
