West Berkshire Council is delighted to invite everyone to special celebrations on Sunday 6 July, marking the grand opening of two beautiful new green spaces in the heart of Newbury: The Tudor Garden at Shaw House and the completion of Phase 1 of the Peace Garden at The Wharf.
At 11am, the Tudor Garden - a thoughtfully designed and historically inspired space, will be officially opened. Created by horticulturist Andrea Fearon, with volunteer support and delivered by West Berkshire Council’s Community Services team, the garden offers a contemporary twist on Tudor-era planting.
Visitors can enjoy the garden as it comes into bloom, meet the volunteers behind the project, and explore the historic Shaw House and exhibitions free of charge. The café will be open where you can purchase light refreshments.
At 1pm, celebrations continue at The Wharf, opposite Newbury Library, with the opening of Phase 1 of the Peace Garden-a key part of the Newbury Town Centre Masterplan.
This new space blends nature, accessibility, and community connection. Designed by award-winning architectural and landscape consultancy Adams & Sutherland and delivered by Volker Highways. It represents a significant step forward in transforming The Wharf into a biodiverse, inclusive and welcoming part of the town centre. Light refreshments will be available to purchase from West Berkshire Museum.
