Join superstar volunteers from NCEC and MNA for a hands-on workday at Coolbough Natural Areas! This event is your chance to dig into real conservation work, learn about the ecosystem we're restoring, and connect with others who care deeply about protecting wild spaces.
What to expect:
* We will be preparing part of the preserve for future prescribed burns. Small trees, low branches, and accumulated leaves will be dispersed throughout the burn unit.
* Chainsaw Crew Needed! Certified sawyers: we need your help felling dead trees. All proper PPE (chaps, eye and ear protection) is required.
Lunch Break!
We’ll fire up the grill around noon with hot dogs and veggie burgers for all volunteers—come hungry!
What to bring:
* Work gloves (we’ve got extras if needed..)
* Long pants and sturdy footwear (thorny brush and uneven ground await!)
* Loppers or handsaws, if you have them
* Re-usable water bottles are recommended, we have re-fills!

What are the "Coolbough Natural Areas"?
Spanning over 400 acres of forests, savannas, wetlands, and streams, Coolbough Natural Areas is owned by Brooks Township and managed by the Michigan Nature Association.
Our goal? Restore these habitats to their natural glory—removing invasives and giving native plants, insects, and birds their home back.
