Do you have woody invasive species on your property and want to learn how to get rid of them?
Then come to this “Make It & Take It Herbicide Dauber” workshop!
At this workshop you will make your own herbicide dauber, learn about the different herbicides that are specific for woody shrubs, and how to carefully use the dauber.
We will then practice on the workshop site property where woody invasives are needing removal. So you will not only go home with your own dauber and knowledge on how to use it, but with hands-on experience too!
** Come for free! Go home with a Dauber for Half Price!
You can come to the workshop for free, even if you do not want to go home with an herbicide dauber. You will still learn a lot! But you must register either way:

All Dauber materials will be provided. We will put them together at the workshop. The cost for the finished dauber is $25. This is about half the price of the materials, which is being discounted by a local hardware store. Purchasing a ready made dauber can cost between $50 to $150. So this is a great savings for you!
** Why use an Herbicide Dauber?
A dauber allows you to carefully place the herbicide right on the cut stem or stump of the shrub. It is then drawn down to the roots where it is needed to K*ll the plant. This targeted approach is safer and more effective than foliar spraying with an herbicide. Just cutting or digging up invasive woody shrubs will increase their likelyhood of multiplying!
** As this is a hands-on workshop, please remember the following:
1. Wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty or stained with dye from the herbicide.
2. Wear sturdy boots or shoes for the field time cutting and daubing woody shrubs.
3. If you have work gloves, please bring them. We will have some on hand.
4. Bring loppers and pruners if you have them. We will have some on hand.
5. Bring your water bottle or snacks if needed.
** Dress for the weather: hot, cold, rainy?
If the weather is too bad for the outdoor practice of cutting & daubing on site woody shrubs, we will reschedule that portion.
We should be able to glue the daubers outdoors under canopies if there is a light rain.
If we need to reschedule, we will email registrants, and post on our FB Events page (NCEC2/events) and Website Calendar (www.nc-ec.org).
** Your Workshop Leaders:
Val Deur is a local resident who loves our unique native habitats in Newaygo County. Val helps with restoration at our Nature Sanctuaries with removing invasive species on TLC Workdays. Val is providing this Dauber Workshop opportunity so others can help keep invasive plant species from overtaking our native plants and habitats on their own properties.
Rowan O'Mara is NCEC's Healthy Habitats Program Coordinator. They have extensive experience in working with our local Michigan Nature Association's Conservation Coordinator, Stuart Goldman, removing invasive species including woody shrubs.
