Where Does Pasta Come From? Nobody knows for sure where pasta originally comes from, or how it arrived in Italy. Some people think that explorer Marco Polo, who went to China in the 1200s, brought Chinese noodle making, which the Chinese had been doing for centuries, back to Italy with him. But others think that pasta came to Italy some other way. There’s evidence that pasta existed in Italy as early as the 4th century BC.
Whatever its origins, pasta became a favorite food in Italy, helped along by the fact that Italy is a great place for growing the ingredients for pasta-making.
