About the event

Lotus L. Kang: A Night of Poetry and Translation
Organized on the occasion of Lotus L. Kang: Already, 52 Walker presents an evening of poetry, translation, and conversation.

About this Event

The evening will open with a workshop on how translation can open new paths for poetic expression across languages and forms. Following the workshop and readings, An and Seo will be joined by artist Lotus L. Kang for a conversation about her relationship to poetry and translation, particularly in connection to her exhibition at 52 Walker.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

is a multidisciplinary exhibition by artist Lotus L. Kang, presented by 52 Walker and curated by Ebony L. Haynes. Reflecting on impermanence, inheritance, memory, and time, Kang brings together sculpture, photography, and installation—including a selection of discrete objects, wall works, and a central installation staged within and around two modified greenhouses. These permeable, metabolic environments—titled Receiver Transmitter (49 Echoes I and II)—mirror each other across the gallery, enclosing light-sensitive materials that trace the presence of surrounding architecture and bodies. The exhibition title draws from a poem by Kim Hyesoon in Autobiography of Death (2019), evoking the Buddhist tradition of forty-nine days between death and rebirth. A kinetic sculpture from Kang’s Azaleas series, inspired by Kim Sowol’s 1925 poem, complements the show as a kind of underbelly, further exploring cycles of transformation and reverberation.
