About this Event

LIVE FROM VIENNA: “THE BLUE DANUBE” WALTZ TRANSMITTED INTO SPACE

Experience a once-in-a-lifetime cultural moment in the heart of NYC!

Join us in Bryant Park as we beam Vienna’s most iconic melody—the “Blue Danube” waltz—into space, live from Austria’s capital. One of the most iconic music pieces from Vienna – composed by the King of WaltzJohann Strauss II is The Blue Danube Waltz. Although The Blue Danube Waltz is considered the unofficial anthem of outer space, it was left behind on earth when the Voyager Golden Records were sent into the cosmos in 1977. We want to correct this mistake as a gift to mark the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss II’s birth. Be part of history and watch the Wiener Symphoniker perform an exclusive space concert followed by the transmission of The Blue Danube Waltz to deep space towards Voyager 1. The transmission will be carried out by the European Space Agency's Deep Space Antenna at Cebreros, Spain.

Before the transmission begins, enjoy a lively and elegant waltz lesson led by renowned Viennese dance master Aga Bohun. No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and feel free to dress the part in your finest waltz-inspired attire!

✨ A celebration of music, movement, and magic—under the open sky.
