As autonomous vehicles begin to populate our city streets, we face a technological disruption that could reshape our mobility systems. Join us for an insightful lecture with Prof. Evan Shieh as he explores the long-term urban and spatial impacts of driverless vehicles on our cities.

This talk will examine the profound implications for urban life since automobiles replaced horse-powered travel over a century ago. While driverless vehicles present an opportunity to rethink our built environments, they also risk reinforcing the negative aspects of auto-dependent urbanism. Prof. Shieh will propose a transformative shift towards automated mass transit and mobility as a service, aiming to transition cities from the “Autopias” of today to the “Transitopias” of tomorrow.

Prof. Evan Shieh is an architect, urbanist, and Assistant Professor at New York Institute of Technology. His new book, explores how driverless vehicles could transform our cities, streets, and daily lives—told through the bold, visual style of an architectural graphic novel. It reimagines transportation and design at every scale, from policy to pavement.
