Join the Coffee House and CHC Member Mark Woodcock for the screening of a documentary biopic on Kahlil Gibran, the Lebanese-American poet, painter, and author of The Prophet and other works, who died in 1931. Woodcock began working on the project in 1979, at the request of the Lebanese Ambassador to the UN, Ghassan Tueni, who hoped to encourage a better understanding of Lebanon and its role in shaping the life and work of its famous emigrant to America.
The film is especially relevant today, given current events in Lebanon and the region. Work on the project ceased in the early 1980s as Lebanon suffered further turmoil and I had to focus on other projects. Now, after 45 years, it is hoped that this 65-minute "prototype" will lead to refinancing a feature-length film (originally to have starred Omar Sharif as the on-camera host and Orson Welles reading verses from Gibran's writings).
Dinner to follow.
