About the event

Growing Up Too Soon: Healing Parentification & Generational Trauma
Through reflection, and community, we’ll explore what healing can look like after parentification, trauma, and embracing your true self.

About this Event

In Commemoration of Mental Health Awareness Month:

Join us for a heartfelt evening of reflection, connection, and healing.

In collaboration with the Mami Chula Social Club, The National Dominican Women's Caucus, and the Brides March: Gladys Ricart Survivors' Network against Domestic & Intimate Partner Violence.

Together, we’ll witness Growing Up Too Soon A powerful and intimate event that tells the trauma and healing story of licensed psychotherapist and coach, Karina Aybar-Jacobs, LCSW, CPC, founder of the Self-Worth Hub®(www.karinaaybar.com)

Through Karina’s personal narrative, this event will explore what happens when a child is forced to become the emotional adult in their home—often as a result of parentification, unspoken trauma, or emotionally unavailable caregivers. It offers a raw and relatable look at how these early roles manifest later in life through anxious attachment, people-pleasing, overgiving, and hyper-independence.

Growing Up Too Soon is a story of reclamation—of what healing can look like when we begin to untangle from generational patterns, confront the wounds we’ve carried for too long, and learn to come home to ourselves.

If you’ve ever felt like you were asked to grow up before you were ready, this story is for you.

** This gathering is for any woman who was asked to be “the strong one” far too early. Through film, guided reflection, and community support, we’ll begin to explore how to gently lay down those roles and reconnect with the parts of ourselves that were left behind.

This event is about what can change when we stop trying to heal in isolation—and start building spaces where we can be witnessed, supported, and held.
