FashionSpeak Fridays: An Evening with Melitta Baumeister

Join 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Melitta Baumeister for an exploration of her illustrious career. Baumeister made her runway debut at September 2024’s New York Fashion Week. The German-born, New York based designer based received her MFA in Fashion Design at Parsons The New School, and her independent brand has since gained acclaim for its expressively unique wearable garments that reject trends, body standards, and beauty ideals. Working closely with her partner, Michal Plata, who brings an interdisciplinary perspective shaped by his experience as a car and context designer at BMW Advanced Design, Baumeister’s designs are intended to impact not only the wearer but also the space around them. She is the recipient of the 2025 National Designer Award for fashion design by the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Melitta Baumeister Style is highly encouraged!
