In this talk, Dr. Marissé Masís-Solano will share how cutting-edge technology developed at Cornell Tech is being used to transform eye care access through her startup, Iriscience. She will explore how artificial intelligence and smartphone-based diagnostics can detect preventable conditions like cataracts—and how these tools are being designed for use in community clinics, pharmacies, and underserved regions. Marissé will also discuss her broader vision for "oculomics," the science of using the eye to detect systemic diseases, and how innovation on Roosevelt Island is contributing to global health equity.
Dr. Marissé Masís-Solano is a glaucoma specialist and biomedical scientist with a PhD in Biomedical Science from the University of California San Francisco and the University of Montreal. She is the founder and CEO of Iriscience, a Cornell Tech-supported digital health startup developing AI-powered tools for remote ocular diagnostics. With over 15 years of clinical experience and a passion for public health, Marissé is working to expand access to vision care and pioneer new approaches to early disease detection through the eye.
