Join us for an insightful and interactive CPAL class on Legal Copyright Issues within Artists’ Legacy. This class addresses what artists and executors can do to prepare for legal issues surrounding copyrights, ownership, gifting, and sales.


Class title: Legal Copyright Issues within Artists’ Legacy

In this two-hour slot, the class will break down as follows: a comprehensive one-hour lecture, followed by a half-hour dedicated to a case study analysis, with the remaining 15 minutes for Q&A.

About the instructor:

Amelia K. Brankov is the Founder of Brankov PLLC and Chair of the New York City Bar Association’s Art Law Committee. She focuses her practice on art law, intellectual property law, and litigation. She advises galleries, collectors, artist studios, artist estates and foundations, curators, art advisors, appraisers, and conservators. She represents clients in disputes concerning the title, authenticity, and copyright interests of artwork, as well as business disputes among various players in the art world. She assists clients in all legal aspects of transactions involving artwork including purchase agreements, consignment agreements, and loan agreements. She also has extensive experience representing artists, galleries, and platforms in developing NFT projects. In addition to her fine art practice, Ms. Brankov is noted for her extensive and successful work litigating disputes in the advertising, film, fashion, television, and publishing industries. She is the Chair of the Art, Antiques & Auctions Advisory Board of Trusts & Estates magazine and a past Co-Chair of the New York County Lawyers Association’s Art Law Committee. Chambers recently included Ms. Brankov as a top Art and Cultural Property Attorney in the United States in their High Net Worth 2021 and 2022 guides, and Ms. Brankov has been named a Super Lawyer in the New York Metro area every year since 2013, and is included in Super Lawyers Top 50 Women in the New York Metro area (2022). She teaches a course on Visual Arts and the Law as an Adjunct Professor at NYU’s Steinhardt School. She has published and lectured widely on art law and copyright issues, and authors a blog focused on legal issues affecting artists and the art market, available on her website at Blog — Brankov PLLC (brankovlaw.com).
