Stephen Frears' 2013 biopic “Philomena” is a dramatized account of Philomena Lee (Judi Dench), an elderly English woman who had a son out of wedlock as a teen who she was forced to give up for adoption. On his 50th birthday, she decides to try to find him. With the help of her daughter Jane (Anna Maxwell Martin) she convinces former journalist Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan) to help her find him. It was nominated for 4 Oscars (Best Picture, Score, Dench for Actress, and Coogan & Jeff Pope's Adapted Screenplay) in 2014 at the 86th Academy Awards.
Cindy & I are presenting “Philomena” at The Hub on Canal on Friday 11/21. Movie Night at The Hub is the most eclectic, entertaining, pedagogical & economic show in town. Admission is $10, and includes a chocolate, the film, a free raffle, a dinner buffet, and audience participation in the Post-Film Discussion. Beer, wine & water are available for purchase.
