Anthem Rotary Club will host a community fundraising car wash on Saturday, August 16, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Legends Bar & Grill parking lot, with 100% of proceeds going to support the recovery of 16-year-old Eric Boateng, a promising young leader who survived a devastating car crash two weeks ago.
Eric is a Boulder Creek High School (BCHS) student and a rising youth leader. He was seriously injured on July 19, 2025, while driving from Prescott to Anthem after attending a Rotary youth leadership retreat. Eric was en route to catch a flight to Washington, DC, where he had been selected to attend the Bank of America Student Leaders Summit, a national leadership program. While navigating a long detour at night through US 89 and US 93, Eric’s vehicle was hit by another car at an intersection. His car was thrown into a field and quickly caught fire.
Unconscious at first, Eric woke just in time to escape the flames. Good Samaritans helped move him to safety, but his vehicle and all his belongings were destroyed entirely. He was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where he was treated for a broken femur, fractured ankle, hip injury, and multiple lacerations. Doctors called his survival a miracle. He now faces a long road to recovery, currently dependent on a wheelchair and walker.

Eric is active in Rotary District 5495’s Interact District Council, and his story is already inspiring countless others with its combination of grit, grace, and gratitude.
