Nau mai, haere mai to my art exhibition fundraiser ‘This Mortal Coil’. This event is to raise funds for my research into innovative multi-generational ways of caring for elderly people.
I have recently been selected to receive a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship on this topic. Unfortunately the Fellowship funding doesn’t cover all the costs involved, so for the first time I am putting my artworks on show, and on sale, to help raise funds for this important kaupapa.
Overseas travel is required to conduct research about the ground-breaking dementia and elder care villages based in the United Kingdom and Australia, and how these models could work in Aotearoa.
All proceeds will go towards essential research trip costs, and any surplus will be donated to the Pahake Kaumatua Group to support their attendance at the Kaumatua Olympics and marae events.
My exhibition is called ‘This Mortal Coil’ and will be held at 207 Devon St East (currently Vintage Industries) from 5pm - late Friday 16 May and 10am - 3pm on Saturday 17 May and Sunday 18 May.
The title of the exhibition is reflective of my dedication to improving health outcomes for all Taranaki people. Our time on this ‘mortal coil’, as Shakespeare calls it, is so very short – and for many it is shorter than it should be. I wanted to bring focus to the health inequity across the life course of so many people, especially when it comes to care for our older generations.
Purchases can be made through direct enquiry or during the exhibition.
