Martha Gardin is a mess. And everyone in the Gardin family knows it. A successful physician, Martha is usually the source of the Gardin family drama, but her heart is in the right place… sometimes. So, the Gardins are pleasantly surprised when Martha mellows out after she begins dating Oji Greenwald, one of the most eligible bachelors in town.

As Martha’s relationship with Oji deepens, she thinks she’s finally about to have the life she’s always wanted. But when Martha attempts to intervene in a health crisis in Oji’s family, she draws the ire of Oji’s mother, Eve Greenwald, which jeopardizes everything. Suddenly, Martha finds herself on a journey full of challenges that force her to deal with her previous mistakes, reconcile her past, and forge a path forward.

With the Gardin women getting along after years of tension and misunderstandings, Martha's ready to celebrate her Aunt Naomi's wedding with her new boyfriend, Oji Greenwald. While she's worked hard the past year on becoming a better person to her family and others, she still feels the tension of having to prove herself to the community and those who have doubted her. But it's a big day for the couple, as Oji's parents, Adam and Eve Greenwald, are also attending. As the wedding guests bid the newlyweds farewell for their honeymoon and Martha breathes a sigh of relief that the families have gotten along well, a crisis develops when Adam disappears. As Martha leaps into savior mode to help the man she hopes will become her father-in-law, she makes a myriad of stumbles and draws the ire of her potential mother-in-law. In the days that follow, Martha feels underwhelmed by Oji's impromptu marriage proposal. While she relishes the accomplishment of strategically engineering her way into one of her community's most highly regarded families, Martha worries that her superficial relationship with Oji and the conflict with his mother aren't worth the social status she's always envied. As she begins to uncover truths about herself, her fiancé, and her future in-laws, will she finally come to realize that what she wants is a wedding based on love and not just the social event of the year?

Rosey Lee is the author of The Gardins of Edin and A Gardin Wedding. She writes stories about complicated families and complex friendships, but a happy ending is guaranteed. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where she enjoys cooking, flower arranging, and occasional bursts of fanatical bargain shopping. She grew up on the Westbank of New Orleans, Louisiana and carries the area and her loved ones in her heart when she’s away from them.
