Crawfish and Comics: 826 Afterschool Publishing Party!
BREAKING NEWS: Meet us in the 826 Parking lot for some hot crawfish and youth stories fresh off the press! Join us for our Spring publishing party as we honor the hard work of our Afterschool students' newspaper comic-inspired stories that center themes of power, determination, and action-filled perseverance.
Inspired by the 1619 Project Freedom School Curriculum, 826 New Orleans Afterschool students explored the definition of power through hearing stories of Black youth who participated in the fight against segregation in the Civil Rights Movement. Energized by the themes of action and power in comic books and aesthetic of Newspaper comics, students crafted stories delivered via a youthful Newspaper style. Students canswered the prompt: Create a World: Write a fictional story with a character that exhibits POWER!
Celebrate the end of the school semester in our backyard and enjoy a ‘newsworthy’ student-led show!
