ABOUT THE SESSION
Government is dysfunctional, orgs are outmatched, and philanthropy is fickle in the face of the mounting existential crises of our times. This is likely a widely-accepted sentiment at our gathering of fiery progressive activists, anyway, but how then do we spark the grassroots explosion needed to rise to the moment? It's hard enough to stave off burnout among the activated, let alone recruiting millions more into the work.
Universal Basic Income (UBI) offers an often-overlooked answer to this dilemma, so let's talk about it. Better yet, let's experience it.
Facilitated around sneak peek footage from the upcoming docuseries BOOTSTRAPS, which follows 11 diverse households from across the nation participating in a groundbreaking UBI experiment, this session will be an interactive discussion around the ways economic security underpins societal power dynamics and touches every issue from climate breakdown to domestic violence to civil rights.
One of the documentary subjects, Corine Olarte VanderVoort, will join the conversation to speak to her personal experiences going through the basic income program. One of the filmmakers, Conrad Shaw, will also join in to announce and discuss a wildly ambitious grassroots campaign planned for 2026 and beyond.
