Richard Descending is a compelling, one-man play for adults that dives deep into the heart of a struggling community. Watch as storyteller Raymond Goodwin brings to life the emotional journey of small-town youth facing despair and the haunted teacher determined to reach them.

(By audience consent--available after the play is a performance of a five-minute Alternative Scene that occurs near the end of the play.)

Your character's statement that "indifference is a form of anger" was thought-provoking for me. I think that's a profoundly true observation; that very often anger (perhaps when coupled with a feeling of powerlessness) is expressed as indifference. I thought that was very well-stated. In the flow of the narrative, I was very moved by Richard's struggle with passivity. In my own life, growing up, I was at times the victim of passivity on the part of people I was dependent on, so the tension of watching "will he or won't he engage before it's too late" was very visceral. Likewise, the sense of release when he at last breaks free of his paralysis was cathartic.” Audience member
