Step into an evening where music breathes with memory, movement, and meaning.
The IHC Lok Sangeet Sammelan 2025 invites you to experience India's living folk traditions โ brought to life by master artists from Koraput (Odisha), Seraikela (Jharkhand), and West Bengal.
On August 16, the spotlight is on the Durua community of Koraput, who will share their spirited songs and dances โ traditions rooted in the rhythms of nature, worship, and rural life. The evening continues with a soulful dotara recital by Kangal Khyapa from West Bengal, whose music captures the poetic and mystical spirit of the Bauls.
On August 17, explore the depth and diversity of folk instrumental traditions from across Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bengal โ each performance a window into a unique cultural soundscape. The evening will culminate in the spectacular Seraikela Chhau dance of Jharkhand โ a stylised form that combines martial art, theatre, and mythology in a mesmerizing display of grace and power.
In addition to the performances, a special exhibition in the foyer will showcase the musical heritage of Seraikela Kharsawan and Koraput, offering a closer look at the instruments, artists, and histories that keep these traditions vibrant.
Organized in collaboration with banglanatak dot com, and supported by the Axis Bank Foundation, this Sammelan is part of our collective effort to celebrate, preserve, and share the cultural wealth of rural India with wider audiences.
