Mumu Fresh - Sound Bath Healing Session (In Honor of Everett Hoagland)
Come join us for a special sound bath healing session with Mumu Fresh, dedicated in honor of Everett Hoagland. This in-person event will take place at the Verdean Veterans Memorial Hall.
Poetry readings from Everett Hoagland’s The Music, followed by a healing sound bath led by @MumuFresh (Maimouna Youssef).
is a GRAMMY-nominated, Indigenous Music Award-winning, 3x WAMMY Award-winning, & Washington Award-winning artist. She is a Musical Ambassador for the U.S. State Department, Co-Chair of the GRAMMY DC Chapter’s Social Action Committee, & an Ambassador of the Black Music Collective.Internationally acclaimed as an Afro-Indigenous singer, emcee, songwriter, activist, workshop facilitator, & audio engineer, she’s been hailed by Black Thought from Roots as a “quadruple threat” & by Common as “groundbreaking.”She has voiced the ACLU’s Systemic Equality campaign, starred in the ESPYs Black Lives tribute, & worked with AFROPUNK x Netflix. Her track “EMOGs” with Salaam Remi topped 2M Spotify streams, & her viral feature on Tobe Nwigwe’s “Tundah Fiyah” surpassed 1M views in a day.Her sound blends Jazz, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock, Spirituals, & traditional African & Indigenous music. Maimouna has a passion for activism & community service, donating much of her time & platform to raise awareness & education around race & gender inequity, environmental justice, & independence for artists. Her most recent offering is The Healing.
Everett Hoagland (1942–2025) is one of the key voices in the Black Arts Movement. His courageous work illuminated both the American & African American experience. His honors include the Gwendolyn Brooks Award, 2023 American Book Award, Langston Hughes Society Award, & the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry from the American Literature Association’s Society for African American Literature & Culture.Poems from “The Music” will be read by poets, students, & friends of Everett.
