About the event

In the Circle of Tango and Mazurka: A Guitar Recital by Jack M. Wisniewski
This recital reveals the deep-rooted ties between Poland and the world of tango—past and present.

About this Event

Join us for a captivating evening of music with guitarist JACK MARCIN WISNIEWSKI as he explores the vibrant connections between Polish and Latin musical traditions. A wine reception will follow the recital.

The recital blends classical repertoire with the passionate rhythms of Argentina, Brazil, and beyond. It celebrates cross-cultural harmony and reveals the deep-rooted ties between Poland and the world of tango—past and present.

The program will include:

  • “This Last Sunday” – a classic Polish tango composed by Jerzy Petersburski, which has become a symbol of the 1920s and 1930s in Poland.
  • “Mazurka Choro” – Heitor Villa-Lobos – a piece combining Polish and Brazilian dance forms, perfectly showing the fusion of cultures.
  • Fryderyk Chopin – a guitar adaptation of one of his famous compositions
  • Jack Marcin Wisnieski's compositions inspired by Polish music and Latin American rhythms.
  • Improvisations on tango, milonga, mazurka, and waltz – variations and improvisations on Latin and Polish/European dance motifs.
  • The standard repertoire of the Classical Guitar includes Tarrega, Bach, Albeniz, Anonim, etc.

Jack Marcin Wisniewski is a Polish guitarist and composer whose musical journey began with a rescued guitar in 2000. As the bandleader of Grupo Aurora, he has been a vital force in New York's Latin music scene, blending traditional and contemporary sounds. In 2023 and 2024, he completed a world tour through Switzerland, Italy, The USA, and Poland, submitted his recording Lágrima for Grammy nomination, and released his first CD, Clásico. His work has involved collaborations with the Polish Consulate in New York, The Ukrainian Institute Of America, and the Kosciuszko Foundation, showcasing his dedication to cultural diplomacy through music.

The event has been funded by the Foundation's Sylvian and Eugene Bobinski Fund.
