Every year, Columbia University's Society of Women Engineers hosts a free Engineering Exploration Experience (EEE) Summit for high school girls to learn about STEM and what the field looks like at the collegiate level. This day is dedicated to introducing high school girls to the exciting opportunities available in all branches of engineering through lectures by professors and professionals, hands-on design challenges guided by Columbia Engineering students, and college admissions information sessions. Throughout the day, students can speak with female engineers and learn the steps they can take to become one themselves in the future.
Currently, only 16% of all engineers are female-identifying. We hope to empower and encourage high school girls to pursue engineering academically and professionally.
We are excited to announce that this year's EEE theme is "The Flow of Innovation: Water as a Resource and a Challenge." The day's activities will incorporate this theme by having a special concentration on environmental protection and sustainability. Please note, though, that volunteers and experts from all types of engineering will still be at the summit, and attendees will have the opportunity to learn about all of engineering's facets as well as its cross-disciplinary applications.
