Exploring the impact of gun violence on mental health and communities, and strategies for prevention and recovery.

Gun violence is a public health crisis that deeply impacts individuals and communities. In

this presentation, we will discuss the prevalence and risk factors of gun violence and hope

to raise awareness about the psychological impacts of gun violence. We will also examine

the correlation between gun violence and the development of mental health issues which

can negatively impact psychosocial engagement. We also hope to address the critical

need for accessible mental health resources and provide strategies for supporting those

affected by gun violence through prevention, recovery, and engagement.



Target Audience

Registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and other interested health care professionals



Objectives

At the conclusion of the educational activity, participants will be able to:

1. Examine the prevalence and risk factors of gun violence in communities.

2. Identify the psychological impacts of gun violence on individuals and communities.

3. Discuss the role of timely interventions and provide effective strategies for supporting

individuals affected by gun violence.


Participants can earn up to 2.0 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development credit. Each nursing participant must be present for the entire session and must complete an evaluation of the session to receive contact hours.
