2025 Town Service Forum

Come to Town Meeting Room at New Canaan Town hall to hear from our current and past democratic town leaders and learn about serving in elected office and volunteering on town boards and commissions.

Ever wonder what it would be like to serve our town, either by running for office or volunteering for a board or commission? If so, you probably have lots of questions. You love the town, but what could you offer to make it better? How much time would it take? When do meetings take place?

To answer those questions and others, the New Canaan Democrats are holding a Town Service Forum on Wednesday, May 7, at 7 p.m. in the Town Meeting Room in Town Hall.

We are looking for Democrats interested in running for office, as well as Democrats who would like to be endorsed to serve on a board or commission. However, the forum will also be a great opportunity to learn more about how town government works in practice, and we look forward to answering your questions.

You’ll hear from Democrats who currently serve, or have served, on the Board of Selectmen, Town Council, Board of Education and Board of Finance, as well as the Planning & Zoning and Conservation commissions.

The current and past Democratic town leaders will tell you about their experiences, the satisfaction that comes with their positions, as well as the challenges. But, in all, they believe they have contributed to making New Canaan the town we all appreciate.

Whatever you ultimately decide, you’ll come away from the meeting knowing more about our town’s government and, if you decide to serve, how your contribution will be valued.
