Welcome to an intimate concert interweaving Redwood’s spoken word poetry with melodies from Timothy Firkin.
We gather to kindle heart warmth in the dark, in community with each other and the earth and sky who hold us. Poems and music for the spirit to journey with. Whether or not you’ve heard either of us perform… there will be some new tastes for you here - because many of these poems and musical compositions have never been heard before by anyone but us!
This is also Redwood’s 'ka kite' offering before they depart these lands for some time.
*About the performers:*
Redwood Reider (they/them) is a spoken word poet known for inspiring and uplifting live audiences. Redwood often collaborates on stage with live musicians, weaving poems into musical tapestries to help the medicine sink in. Redwood has performed at arts and music events across Aotearoa and beyond, and has produced five recorded albums of poetry with music. Their poems grow out of a deep connection to earth, a love of community and a dedication to seeding healing in our inner and outer worlds.

Timothy Firkin aka BornOfTheMist is a percussionist, handpan artist and DJ who draws inspiration from the shamanic element of curating extended sets of music imbued with intention. The emotional landscape traversed together... the journey and emergence into somewhere unexpected. He has brought his collaborative multi layered hybrid-live dj sets to most of the major festivals in the South Island and is deepening his intentions this year to weave and co-create with like-minded local and international artists while also focusing on more curated solo offerings.
Tim is heavily influenced by the wild landscapes of Te Tau Ihu and the mauri (life force) that runs through this whenua and its waters.
