We’re arranging a Community Planting Day for the fall—and we’re putting out a call to local gardeners and plant stewards!
If you’ve been propagating or transplanting native plants at home, we’d love to invite you to bring them to the wetland in the fall as part of our planting effort. This is an impactful way to build a personal connection with this restoration site.
To protect local ecosystems, we ask that:
Any plants contributed are either salvaged or come from your own property, rather than harvesting from unmanaged areas
Propagation follows ethical guidelines—we’ve included resources below!
We're focusing on native forbs, grasses, and some shrubs to support the floodplain grassland character of the wetland.
Helpful Resources:
Ethical Collection Guidelines – GOERT
Wetland Plants of BC – BCWF
Best Plants for Pollinators – Kootenay Native Plant Society
If you're interested in learning more about propagation techniques, reach out to the email below!—we're happy to provide additional resources or guidance.
Meeting location: Harrop Wetlands trailhead – just before Sunshine Bay Riding Club off Erindale Road in Harrop.
Time: 10 AM – 12 AM
