Aug 27 - Catbird
Performing under the stage name Catbird, singer-songwriter Jessie Heckel is neither species; but is an entirely different creature all together. Rooted in the West Kootenays on the traditional land of the Sinixt, the Syilx, and the Ktunaxa peoples in Nelson, BC, Jessie channels the spirit of folk and country traditions with her introspective songwriting, dancing melodies, and timeless tone. With a flair for the dramatics, she takes influence from the musicals she grew up enamoured by. Her music, affectionately called "ethereal freak folk" explores themes of resilience, love, and loss. Soft-hearted and melancholy at times, melded with tongue-in-cheek commentary, she weaves a sonic tapestry that resonates with audiences. Jessie recognizes the power of music and its ability to help people communicate and heal, and it is through her
music that she invites listeners to pause, breathe, and feel connected.

We would like to respectfully acknowledge that we are on the unceded, ancestral, traditional and occupied territories (tum-ula7xw) of the Sinixt Nation. The Sinixt were wrongfully declared extinct by the Canadian government in 1956 but have lived on these lands since time immemorial and continue to do so today. It is our responsibility to educate ourselves, to listen and support the Sinixt nation and to stop participating in systems that harm others
