Martha Doolin: Capturing the Outdoors

For our March program, Martha Doolin will join us for a demonstration of landscape painting. Drawing inspiration from a lifetime of living in New England, Martha’s work captures the region’s changeable seasonal nature. She believes that being outside is vital for the soul and paints directly from life, responding instinctively to the immediate environment. While Martha styles her work after the Boston School and its deep foundation in Impressionism, she also frequently refers back to the Dutch Masters, particularly appreciating their distinct method of presenting a story within a painting.

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Martha Doolin spent several years working as a graphic designer and illustrator before focusing exclusively on painting. Her work has been included in a number of juried shows throughout the area, and has received awards from the Guild of Boston Artists, the Rockport Art Association, The Cape Cod Art Center, the Weston Arts and Crafts Association and the Newton Art Association.
