Theology on Tap: Pope Leo XIV & Catholic Social Teaching

Join us for a three-part series exploring Pope Leo XIV and Catholic Social Teaching this summer at St. Edward Church.

This outdoor setting at our parish pavilion welcomes all parishioners for an evening of theological discussion and fellowship. We'll provide snacks and soft drinks for everyone, with a beer garden available for adults 21 and older.

Come discover the rich tradition of the Church's social teaching and explore the emerging papacy of our new Holy Father, Leo XIV. Each session will examine the development of papal social encyclicals, tracing how each predecessor built upon this foundation to address the challenges of their time and society. We'll also consider how Pope Leo XIV's early papacy may already signal his own contributions to this vital tradition.

As the first American pope in Church history, Leo XIV brings a distinctive perspective shaped by his missionary work in Peru and his profound commitment to serving the marginalized. Explore how his papal name—chosen in honor of Pope Leo XIII—signals both continuity with established Catholic social doctrine and a path forward for the Church today.
