AIWC NAPLES "BORGO DUE PORTE" WALK

AIWC members and their guests are invited to join the AIWC NAPLES "BORGO DUE PORTE" walking tour on Saturday 17 May 2025.
Discover a place on the Vomero hill where you can get a sense of the time when the hill was populated by small agricultural settlements (“casali”) that became little rural villages, before the urban developments of the late 19th-early 20th centuries and the intensive urbanization of the postwar period.
Why was it called “Borgo Due Porte” (and not only because of the presence of two arched gates in the little main square!)? Why was an alley called “Vico delle Fate” (“Alley of the Fairies”) and another called “Vico Molo” (“Pier Alley”)? Why are there 14th-century Gothic sarcophagi in a 17th-century church? What was the mysterious Academy of the Secrets of Nature, and what was its connection with Borgo Due Porte? What Neapolitan nobleman lived here, famous during the Renaissance for his contributions to science, philosophy, literature, and much more?
