STRIVE for Success Autism Training Series
Join us at Northern Illinois University - Naperville Campus for a four-day training on foundational practices for supporting students with autism and related disabilities. Illinois Autism Partnership experts bring their years of experience to the training stage for this engaging, hands-on workshop. Each day includes a "make and take" component so that all participants are ready to implement new strategies in their classrooms.
Info: This interactive workshop will provide participants with essential strategies that help structure optimal learning environments to support not only the needs of learners with autism, but also the learning needs and engagement of all students. Creative ideas for setting up the environment to foster success, using visual supports to promote independence, and developing routines to build predictability will provide both experienced and novice educators with practical solutions to implement in their classrooms and therapy sessions.
Info: In this session, you will explore four different functions of behavior and will learn how to create a function-based intervention plan, including choosing the appropriate replacement behavior skills to teach. You will learn the importance of teaching replacement behaviors and what we need to know to be effective when teaching replacement behaviors. Specific steps in teaching replacement behaviors will be explored and practiced.
Info: During this session, you will learn about basics of reinforcement, key strategies, and planning and using reinforcement systems successfully. You will have opportunities to practice strategies for preference assessments and learn how to set up, maintain, and fix breakdowns of reinforcement systems. Motivate your students and see why REINFORCEMENT MATTERS!
Info: Individuals with autism often have difficulty with communication – including comprehension, expression, and pragmatics. Research shows that individuals with autism often benefit from the use of visual supports. This training will provide practical strategies for school teams to foster communication growth through the use of language-rich, visually-based classroom supports, as well as communication systems and supports.
Info: Providing assistance across activities and settings, the evidence-based practice of using visual supports in the classroom is used to organize learning environments and establish learning expectations around activities, routines, and behaviors, as well as cueing for transition time to instruction. You will learn how to effectively address behavior, readiness, and adaptive and academic outcomes through the use of regular and digital visual supports.
Info: In this session, you’ll learn why we collect data and learn the four steps of data collection. You will practice writing behavior definitions, choose appropriate data collection systems, and practice taking and evaluating data. Discover practical strategies for analyzing data and evaluating student progress, with examples of systems that are in place in classrooms across the country.
