Do you love to sing with others for the pure joy of it? Would you rather follow your ear than read music?
Humble Harmony is a non-performing, immersive community singing group, focussed on interconnectivity and vocal harmony. We learn by ear in the oral tradition. All voices are welcome - no experience necessary.
Sing inspiring, uplifting and healing songs, world music, sea shanties, and songs of peace and hope. Some songs are taught in 3 or 4 harmony parts, and some are quick and easy; there are no “wrong notes”, and always room for creativity!
Explore your range and try different parts; no-one is pigeon-holed into an assigned section.
Engage in songs with actions and simple body percussion. We like to stand and move around the room, or use a chair as you wish.
Have a cup of ginger-lemon tea during the 10-minute break, and get to know each other.
On Tuesday nights we are joined by April Laurie, for a vocal play warmup, and funky percussion accompaniment to our mostly acapella songs (I sometimes play ukulele too).
Humble Harmony is part of the Ubuntu Choirs Network, which believes that singing is a universal birthright and that we can change the world by singing together.
WHERE AND WHEN?
Our Nanaimo evening group meets Tuesdays from 7:00pm - 8:45pm at Rotary House, 850 Third St. (accessed via Jinglepot Rd., across from Buttertubs Marsh). There is also a Monday afternoon option in Nanaimo and a Thursday afternoon in Parksville.
Our Late Fall Season is six weeks, starting with this OPEN HOUSE on week one- come and see if you love it!
For the remaining five weeks, we will be a "members only" group, to allow us to get to know the songs, create musical and social cohesion, and enrich the singing experience for everyone. You are welcome to drop in to the Open House with no pressure to sign up; this is an opportunity to share the joy of singing in community.
COST? SLIDING SCALE - meant to welcome people of diverse backgrounds and economic access. Please consider your positionality and choose the sweet spot that is both generous and affordable for you.
Open House - by donation (or included in membership fee)
Membership fee for the 6-week season: $75 to 150, includes access to all three of my groups (some folks come twice a week!)
