Mats Gustafsson & Zoe Pia are Rite. Special Performance at The Vault

Nanaimo's adopted son Mats Gustafsson returns! The baritone wielding sax man makes fourth trip to Nanaimo. This year he his accompanied by renowned Italian clarinettist Zoe Pia. Together this pair stretches and bends music in a challenging and beautiful fashion. For those that haven't experienced Mats before, he is one of the premier avant-garde saxophonists in the world. His highly regarded style and passion have landed him such vaunted company as Sonic Youth, Peter Brotzmann, Jim O'Rourke, Evan Parker and Derek Bailey. Zoe's journey is one of curiosity in music. Studying in her native Italy she has emersed herself in a variety of musical stylings including big band, classical and African American improvisation. Together these two acclaimed artists are RITE. Look for an evening of experimental improvised music that we seldom see.
