4 DAYS MT KENYA CLIMBING SAFARI (Dec 9 - Dec 12, 2024)
Day 1: Nairobi to Sirimon Gate to Judmaier Camp (Old Moses Camp)
📍 Distance: 9km⏳ Time: 3-4 hours📈 Ascent: 860m
Depart Nairobi at 8:00 AM for Nanyuki town (approx. 4-hour drive) for lunch. Proceed to Sirimon Gate (2440m, 1hr drive). From the gate, follow the track uphill through a forest that transitions into heathland after about 3 hours. The track then veers right to Judmaier Camp (3300m) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Judmaier Camp to Shipton Camp
📍 Distance: 17km⏳ Time: 6-7 hours📈 Ascent: 900m
After breakfast, trek uphill, forking left at the junction. Cross Ontulili River, contour through moorland, pass Liki North, and continue ascending towards Mackinders Valley. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views before arriving at Shipton Camp (4200m) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Shipton Camp to Point Lenana to Mintos Hut to Chogoria Bandas
📍 Distance: 32km⏳ Time: 11-12 hours📈 Ascent: 785m
Wake up early at 3:00 AM and begin the steep climb through a stony quarry towards Point Lenana (4985m). Arrive at the summit around 6:30 AM to witness an unforgettable sunrise. After a short celebration, descend 6km (2hrs) to Mintos Hut for breakfast. Continue 20km (4-5hrs) down to Mount Meru Bandas (2950m) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Chogoria Bandas to Chogoria to Nairobi
📍 Distance: 15km⏳ Time: 2 hours
Descend 15km (2hrs) to the forest clearance, where a 4x4 transfer will take you to Chogoria Village. Connect with your transfer vehicle back to Nairobi, marking the end of an incredible adventure!
