HOW TO GET AN A IN KCSE.
By Mr Sam VIDAMBU.
Every high school student has one dream. The dream is to get quality grade which will take them to the university and help them pursue a good course thereafter get employed or employ others.
Grade A begins from 81 points to 84 points with 84 points being the maximum.
In KCSE, the grading system is that only 7 subjects are graded. The subjects are: Mathematics which is compulsory, the best performed language between English and Swahili, and any other five subjects.
An A per subject is 12 points, an A- is 11 points, a B+ is 10 points, a B is 9 points, a B- is 8 points, a C+ is 7 points, a C is 6 points, a C- is 5 points, a D+ is 4 points, a D is 3 points, a D- is 2 points and an E is 1 point.
>To get an A of 84 points, a student needs 7As i.e [7×12]= 84 points.
>To get an A of 83 points, a student needs to have 6As and 1A- i.e [6×12]+[1×11]= 83 points.
>To get an A of 82 points there are two instances;
~A student needs to have 5As and 2A-s i.e [5×12] + [2×11] = 82 points.
Or
~A student needs to have 6As and 1B+ i.e [6×12] + [1×10] = 82 points.
>To get an A of 81 points there are three instances;
~A student needs to have 4As and 3A-s i.e [4×12] + [3×11] = 81 points.
Or
~A student needs to have 5As, 1A- and 1B+ i.e [5×12] + [1×11] + [1×10] = 81 points.
Or
~A student needs to have 6As and 1B plain i.e [6×12] +[1×9] = 81 points.
Here are the five situations which a student can never get an A;
~You will never get overall grade A in KCSE if you have grade B+ in two subjects.
~You will never get overall grade A in KCSE if you have A plain in only three subjects.
~You will never get overall grade A in KCSE if you have A- in three subjects and B+ in one subject.
~You will never get overall grade A in KCSE if you have B- among the subjects.
~You will never get overall grade A in KCSE if you have a B in one subject without A in 6 subjects.
