The Original Ship’s Dog: The Newfoundland in the 19th Century

Join us for this fun costumed event as we travel back in history, exploring life with a Newfoundland dog in a 19th century coastal community.
Watch the dogs helping on the waterfront, retrieving fishing gear, taking the catch of the day to market and rescuing a stranded boat.
In town, see how the Newfoundland dog helped its family with the everyday chores, such as hauling firewood and transporting goods to and from the local shops.
We'll also be sharing Tales of Heroic Newfoundlands throughout history…some documented historical rescues, others are tales shared by fishermen shrouded in mystery and stories & literature featuring our beloved Newfoundland dog.
