Kaleidoscope Artisan Collective announces The Mad Libs Art Show, a public event to benefit The Arts Grand Strand nonprofit organization. The show begins Monday, July 28, at 5 p.m. with an opening reception and runs through Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. Kaleidoscope Artisan Collective, 915 Broadway St. in Myrtle Beach, is open Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday 12-6 p.m.
With the theme “Making Art Fun — and Funny!” the exhibit features a collection of original work by area artists. Each piece in the exhibition has been created in response to a Mad Libs fill-in-the-blank story. Participating artists receive a completed Mad Libs upon registration and craft their work as a reflection on or exploration of the sentiments conveyed through the story.
“Mad Libs is a classic source of humor and fun that people of all ages have enjoyed for years,” said Joe Kohler, owner of Kaleidoscope Artisan Collective and president of The Arts Grand Strand. “We thought it would be fun to bring some humor into the downtown arts scene.”
The art show is open to professionals, novices, budding artists, and emerging artists of any age, with a $10 registration fee. It will feature public voting for a crowd favorite cash prize of half the registration amount as well as three top cash prizes: $150, $100, and $50. The show will be judged by special guest comedians. Prizes are sponsored by Alexander Insurance. All pieces in the show will also be available for purchase, and all proceeds benefit The Arts Grand Strand.
The Arts Grand Strand serves to promote, nurture, and expand the artisan culture in the Myrtle Beach area and connect and support area artists.
