About the event

MOTHERS DAY CONCERT AT MURRAY FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! The Todd Hill Orchestra is in its 43rd season and will feature Kayla Marie Little on vocals, the leader on piano, Murray’s Dr. Derek Jones on clarinet and alto saxophone, Andy Brown on tenor sax, Bo Clayton and Ped Foster on trumpet, John Madole on drums, G.R. Davis on string bass, along with thirteen more pro musicians from throughout the region. More musicians with ties directly to Murray include MSU professors Dr. Todd French (trombone) and Brent Webster (guitar and banjo), and MSU alumni including Calloway Co HS Band Director Nick Calcamuggio (trumpet), Dr. Ed Lacy (alto sax), Anthony Darnell (bass trombone), Adam Fisher (trumpet), Luke Weatherly and Eli Meece (trombone), Winnie Smee (tenor sax) and Andy Johnson (baritone and alto sax). Another Paris native, Lt Col (ret) Joe Farmer (trumpet) serves as the band’s logistics coordinator. The concert is free, and will be performed to raise funds through a love offering for the church’s Choral Scholars Program which assists Murray State University music students with their studies in exchange for serving in the Chancel Choir at FUMC, all while learning to serve as church leaders themselves. Dr. Hill says “It doesn’t matter how many of the concerts you’ve attending before, this show will pack a lot of new material for you that you haven’t seen or heard before, as the band’s music collection now exceeds 350 numbers in our repertoire. We are always excited to play for the home folks here in Murray and Calloway County. Kayla’s vocals just keep getting better and better. She is the real deal, and has a special gift for making standards her very own. She will have several new selections to present this year in addition to older favorites with the band.” The 90-minute concert will pack a lot of high energy performances from the big band era of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Harry James up to more recent and still living artists like Stevie Wonder. The concert is presented in memory of the late Jane Blankenship Hill.
