Have you always wanted to work with willow and make a beautiful, natural willow basket? Join us on Saturday, July 26th for a full day of willow basket making! Participants will make a 12’’ x 7’’ x 6’’ (approximately) willow fruit basket with a pine wood base. This class will cover some basic stake and strand basketry techniques, including:
- staking up the base
- upsetting
- pairing weavers
- waling
- creating flow on the sides
- french randing
- pricking down
- plain rod border
Experience Level: All levels are welcome. No experience required. Average to moderate hand strength is required for this class. It will likely not be a good fit for anyone with hand sensitivities including hand injuries and arthritis.
The instructor is committed to fostering an equitable approach to craft. Her teaching will thoughtfully explore how craft practices, education, and materials are connected to broader social issues such as historical and ongoing injustices, including land appropriation, indigenous displacement, and systemic inequality. There will be a 1-Hour lunch break. Please bring a sack lunch or explore local dining options.
An additional fee for materials provided by your instructor for this workshop is estimated at $65.00. Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees. This instructor also accepts Venmo.
